About

A planning tool for Ouray's trails

Offroad Ouray brings trail status, 3D terrain, and printable maps into one place, so you can plan the day before you lose signal.

Not for navigation

This site helps you plan. It doesn't replace official sources, signs on the ground, or your own judgment. Trail lines come from OpenStreetMap, a map anyone can edit, and may be out of date. Conditions change fast. Always confirm with the Forest Service and the county before you go.

How trail status works

No agency publishes a simple open-or-closed list for these passes. So every few hours the site reads the Forest Service closure orders and matches them to each trail by road number and name. A posted closure always wins.

Without a closure order, status comes from the most recent trail conditions we can find, including openings Ouray County announces on social media, which we add by hand. When no source has anything new, a trail keeps its last reported status, with the date it was reported. We never open or close a trail just because of the calendar. A trail no source has reported on shows "Status unknown." If our last check is more than a day old, every trail shows "Status unknown" instead of a stale "Open."

Weather comes live from the National Weather Service, for the pass summits rather than town.
